The number of labor force in Lampung Province in August 2013 was 3,595.5 thousand people, a decrease of 7.47 percent compared to the situation in February 2013. This decrease is reflected in the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) in August 2013 which was 64.7 percent or down 5.74 points in the same period. The decline in TPAK was due to the departure of the working age population (15 years and over) from working and looking for work.
The number of working residents in Lampung Province is 3,385 thousand people or experienced a decrease in employment of around 8.21 percent from the previous semester.
The open unemployment rate (TPT) was 5.85 percent, an increase of 0.76 points compared to February 2013. The increase was seen in the number of job seekers (open unemployment) of 12.8 thousand people, an increase of 6.08 percent during this semester.
Urban areas are still pockets of unemployment as indicated by the open unemployment rate which reached 9.22 percent compared to rural areas which was 4.76 percent. Or in absolute terms 81.5 thousand people are unemployed in urban areas compared to 129 thousand in rural areas.
The agricultural sector still dominates the population's main employment sector, namely around 51.46 percent of the entire working population. During the period February – August 2013 the number of agricultural workers decreased. On the other hand, workers in industry, construction and financial institutions/real estate/corporate services experienced an increase in employment by 11.5 thousand, 8.2 thousand and 16.3 thousand respectively.
The employment status of the majority of the working population in Lampung Province is that they are trying to be assisted by temporary workers and workers/employees/employees, namely 732.8 thousand people and 871.7 thousand people respectively. From this employment status, it is estimated that formal workers in Lampung are 29.22 percent while informal workers are 70.78 percent. The estimated proportion of formal workers in the previous semester (August 2012 conditions) was 30.43 percent.
