In April 2012, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation after experiencing deflation for the previous two months. Food group; transport, communications and financial services group; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; clothing group; health group; and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups contribute to the formation of inflation in Bandar Lampung City. Meanwhile, the groups that contributed to holding back the rate of inflation in April 2012 were the education, recreation and sports groups. Changes in prices of various commodities in the seven expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.40 percent.
In April 2012, six expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation and one other group experienced a decrease in the index which restrained the rate of inflation. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 18th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 52 cities were observed to experience inflation, the highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang at 1.76 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Bengkulu at 0.03 percent. And 14 other cities experienced deflation, the highest deflation was in Tarakan at 0.51 percent and the lowest was in Banjarmasin at 0.01 percent.
Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group, up 0.99 percent; the transport, communications and financial services group rose 0.43 percent; clothing group rose 0.34 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.21 percent; health group rose 0.18 percent; and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the education, recreation and sports group experienced a decline in index of 0.22 percent.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include garlic, red chilies, kale, parking fees, granulated sugar, papaya, fresh squid, house rent, wet shrimp and shallots. Calendar year (point to point) inflation for April 2012 in Bandar Lampung City was 0.71 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation for April 2012 was 3.93 percent.
