In May 2012, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation like the previous month. Food group; health group; educational, recreational, and sports groups; and clothing groups, contribute to the formation of inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung. Meanwhile, the groups that contributed to holding back the inflation rate in May 2012 were the ready-made food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco groups; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; and the transport, communications and financial services group. Changes in prices of various commodities in the seven expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.17 percent.
In May 2012, four expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation and three other groups experienced a decrease in the index which restrained the rate of inflation. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 26th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 37 cities were observed to experience inflation, the highest inflation occurred in Pontianak at 0.93 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Balikpapan at 0.04 percent. And 29 other cities experienced deflation, the highest deflation was in Pangkal Pinang at 1.15 percent and the lowest was in Bogor at 0.03 percent.
Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group, up 0.64 percent; health group rose 0.37 percent; the education, recreation and sports group rose by 0.06 percent; and the clothing group rose 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that were holding back the rate of inflation, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups, experienced a decline in the index of 0.05 percent; the transport, communications and financial services group fell 0.04 percent; and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group fell 0.02 percent.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include shallots, cucumbers, bananas, purebred chicken eggs, purebred chicken meat, oranges, boards, T-shirts, vegetable tomatoes and brown sugar. Calendar year (point to point) inflation in May 2012 in Bandar Lampung City was 0.88 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in May 2012 was 4.14 percent.
