October 2011, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation. Prepared food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco groups; the foodstuffs group and the education, sports and recreation group make a very large contribution to the formation of inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung. Then successively followed by the health group; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; and the transport, communications and financial services group. Meanwhile, only one group made a negative contribution to inflation in October 2011, namely the clothing group. The increase in prices of various commodities in the six expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.62 percent.
In October 2011, six expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation, and only the clothing group experienced a decrease in the index. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 5th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. A total of 32 cities were observed experiencing inflation and 34 cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Bima at 0.97 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Madiun at 0.01 percent. Kendari City experienced high deflation at 2.98 percent, while low deflation occurred in Sumenep City at 0.02 percent.
Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the education, recreation and sports group, up 1.85 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 1.83 percent; health group rose 1.01 percent; the foodstuffs group rose 0.53 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas, fuel group rose 0.10 percent; the transport, communications and financial services group rose 0.01 percent. The clothing group experienced a decline in the index of 0.96 percent.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include filtered clove cigarettes, rice, academy/university fees, red chilies, sweet bread, household fuel (LPG gas), general practitioner fees, long beans, green mustard greens and bananas. Calendar year (point to point) inflation in October 2011 was 4.24 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 6.18 percent.
