Abstract

February 2011, the prepared food, beverage, cigarette & tobacco and health groups contributed the most to the formation of inflation in Bandar Lampung City. Meanwhile, in January 2011 the food ingredients group was the largest contributing group, in February 2011 it was ranked fourth. The increase in prices of various commodities in these three groups and some in other groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.70 percent.

A total of four groups in February 2011 experienced an increase in their index. The two groups that contributed most to inflation were the ready-made food, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group, mainly due to the increase in prices of several commodities such as clove cigarettes, white cigarettes and porridge; and health groups caused by increases in hospital rates. Meanwhile, in the housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group, the most dominant commodities are house contracts and bricks. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 9th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. A total of 40 cities experienced inflation and 26 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Singkawang at 1.75 percent, while the largest deflation occurred in Sumenep at 0.80 percent.

Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in four expenditure groups, namely foodstuffs 0.55 percent, prepared food, drinks, cigarettes and tobacco 1.10 percent, housing 0.67 percent, and health 6. 55 percent. The education, recreation and sports group and the transport, communication and financial services group did not experience changes in the index, while the clothing group experienced a decline in the index of 0.84 percent.

Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include hospital rates, filtered kretek cigarettes, house contracts, bricks, coconuts, tuna, kretek cigarettes, mackerel, shallots and porridge. Calendar year (point to point) inflation in February 2011 was 1.53 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 10.49 percent.
