Abstract

December 2011, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation. Food group; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; and the transport, communication and financial services groups contributed to the formation of inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung. Meanwhile, the group that contributed to holding back the rate of inflation in December 2011 was the clothing group. Changes in prices of various commodities in the five expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.19 percent.

In December 2011, four expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation, one group experienced a decrease in the index, and two groups experienced no change in the index. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 55th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. All cities observed experienced inflation, the highest inflation occurred in Kupang at 2.19 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Tanjung Pinang at 0.02 percent.


Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group, up 0.48 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.19 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.10 percent; and the transport, communications and financial services group rose 0.07 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that experienced a decline in the index, namely the clothing group, fell 0.27 percent. Meanwhile, the health group and the education, recreation and sports group did not experience changes in the index.

Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include fresh mackerel, fruit tomatoes, house contracts, pikulan drinking water rates, red chilies, fresh anchovies, purebred chicken eggs, cucumbers, oranges and fresh trevally. Calendar year inflation (point to point) and year on year (yoy) inflation in Bandar Lampung City in December 2011 was 4.24 percent.
