Like the previous month, the city of Bandar Lampung this March is still experiencing inflation. There are five expenditure groups that contribute to the formation of inflation in Bandar Lampung City, namely the foodstuffs group; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; transport, communications and financial services group; and educational, recreational, and sports groups. Meanwhile, the clothing group and health group made a negative contribution or restrained the rate of inflation. Price changes in the seven expenditure groups caused inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.97 percent.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include shallots, garlic, satay, boiled rice, oranges, fresh tuna, fresh mackerel, rendang, ground coffee and soto.
Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), inflation in Bandar Lampung City occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group which rose 2.58 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 1.09 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.10 percent; the education, recreation and sports group rose 0.07 percent; and the transportation, communications and financial services group rose 0.06 percent. Meanwhile, the clothing group experienced a decline in the index of 0.38 percent and the health group fell by 0.04 percent.
Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 17th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 58 cities experienced inflation and only 8 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sorong at 1.73 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Pekanbaru at 0.04 percent. The highest deflation was experienced by Jayapura City at 2.63 percent, while the lowest deflation was experienced by Dumai City at 0.01 percent.
Bandar Lampung City, based on calendar year inflation calculations (point to point) in March 2013 was 2.73 percent and year on year (yoy) inflation was 6.81 percent.
