Abstract

After Ramadan and Eid in August 2012, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced the highest inflation throughout 2011-2012. Six expenditure groups contribute to the formation of inflation in Bandar Lampung City and only one group holds back the rate of inflation, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups. The increase in prices of various commodities in the six expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 1.12 percent.

In August 2012, six expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 30th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, all experienced inflation, high inflation occurred in Palu at 2.81 percent; Samarinda 2.29 percent; and Manado 2.16 percent, while low inflation occurred in Medan at 0.04 percent; Pematangsiantar 0.10 percent; and Batam 0.16 percent.

Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the education, recreation and sports group, which rose by 4.35 percent; food ingredients group rose 2.92 percent; health group rose 0.65 percent; clothing group rose 0.29 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.13 percent; and the transportation, communications and financial services group rose 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, one group that held back the rate of inflation, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group, fell 0.01 percent.

Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include junior high school fees, fresh mackerel, rice, raw tofu, beef, elementary school fees, garlic, fresh squid, fresh carp, fresh anchovies, bean sprouts, chicken meat. ras, cassava leaves, vegetable tomatoes, and tempeh. Calendar year (point to point) inflation in August 2012 in Bandar Lampung City was 3.35 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in August 2012 was 4.77 percent.
