Abstract

In November 2013, Bandar Lampung City experienced deflation of 0.29 percent after the last one occurred in May 2013. Two expenditure groups contributed to the formation of deflation in Bandar Lampung City, namely the foodstuffs group which contributed 0.39 percent; and the clothing group at 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group contributed to inflation of 0.11 percent. Meanwhile, the ready-made food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; health group; educational, recreational and sports groups; and the transport, communications and financial services group, this November did not contribute.

Several commodities that dominantly contributed to deflation include coconuts, bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, purebred chicken meat, vegetable tomatoes, fresh squid, granulated sugar, papaya and red chilies.

Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), deflation in Bandar Lampung City occurred due to a decline in the index in the food ingredients group which fell by 1.40 percent; clothing group fell 0.21 percent; and the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group fell 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group increased by 0.54 percent; the transportation, communications and financial services group which rose 0.02 percent; and the health group rose 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the education, recreation and sports groups did not experience changes in the index.

Deflation The city of Bandar Lampung was ranked 55th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 38 cities experienced inflation and 28 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Maumere at 1.54 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Mataram and Sibolga at 0.03 percent. The largest deflation was experienced by the city of Sorong at 1.29 percent, while the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Bengkulu at 0.02 percent.

Bandar Lampung City, based on calendar year inflation calculations (point to point) in November 2013 was 7.26 percent and year on year (yoy) inflation was 7.97 percent.
